Eat This: L’Opossum, Richmond

richmond food

Our Richmond Showroom at Libbie and Grove is anchored among great shopping and a walkable neighborhood that is always worth a trip. The showroom also happens to be within a stone’s throw of some of the best restaurants in the south and the entire country. Within a quick walk, or a five minute drive, you can be eating oysters, southern comfort, barbecue or high cuisine.

One of our favorites is L’Opossum.

Chef David Shannon opened L’Opossum in 2014. The Oregon Hill outpost, a quick drive from our showroom, quickly became a favorite in Richmond…and beyond.

Shannon was a James Beard Foundation Best Chef Mid-Atlantic semi-finalist for 2016. Southern Living named the restaurant one of the 30 best in the south. Opentable included L’Opossum on its list of “100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in 2016” list. Put simply, L’Opossum is a restaurant with a lot of hype, and it lives up to it.

L’Opossum does everything right. The decor is fun and cheeky without going over the top. The menu is carefully, and again, cheekily curated with puns and jokes and some of the finest interpretations of French food you’ll find on the eastern seaboard.

Two of our favorite dishes are:

the Swanky Mac is Back
(Butter Poached Maine Lobster tossed w/ Tender Shells, Swiss Chard & Asparagus in a Ridiculously Rich White Truffle Mornay Cream)

the Portobello Big Mac
(A Vegan Stack of “Meaty” Mushrooms, Shallot Fondue, Roast Beets, Butternut, Kale & Cannellini Velvet)

Don’t miss the cocktails. The Honeybadger is made with honey habanero moonshine from our friends at Belle Isle Moonshine and Jalapeno & Orange, Ginjo Sake, St Germain.

L’Opossum is a come as you are kinda place, jackets and ties not required. Head to dinner in a custom fit Jefferson Plaid and you’re good to go. And, for a limited time you can take 10% off this shirt with code NEWSHIRTS
